Before the start of this Welsh Youth Cup tie, Cwmbran Celtic players were left in no doubt that if they played like they did last Wednesday against Taffs Well, their 100% record could be in danger. This advice was taken on board by every player who took the field on Sunday.
Straight from the off, Celtic took the game by the scuff of the neck and ‘battered’ the opposition. Within eight minutes Celtic had been awarded 5 corners, and were unlucky not to have gone in front with 2 early chances going begging, one from Jamie Arnold and one from Owen Llewellyn. The relentless pressure applied by Celtic eventually produced a goal from striker Lee Newman after 14 minutes. A throw in from Liam Palmer found the head of Celtic captain Lloyd Davies whose headed flick found Lee Newman in space to put Celtic into a well deserved lead. A minute later a free kick into the ENTO Aberaman penalty area found midfielder Luke Sallis who’s header hit the post, the ball falling at the feet of Celtic’s Owen Llewellyn, again making no mistake in finding the back of the net.
Celtic were cruising at this stage, and could of gone further in front through Owen again, but Kurt Rogers in the ENTO goal did well to save the Celtic striker’s effort to his right. Rogers was to come under intense pressure in this game, and again did well to save from Sallis who got on the end of a Ben Evans corner, with Rogers, once again, saving well.
Celtic were, at this time completely in control of this Welsh Youth Cup tie, with ENTO Aberaman unable to make any inroads at all into the Celtic defence. A defence that has only conceded 5 league goals all season. It wasn’t long before the Cwmbran side made it 3-0 when Sallis finished well from a Rekesh Patel cross on 26 minutes. Owen Llewellyn got Celtic’s forth goal of the afternoon after running onto a through ball and rounding the keeper to finish confidently. A score line of 4 -0 at half time reflected Celtic’s dominance, although it could well have been more.
The second half began in the same vain as the first, Celtic attacking, Aberaman defending. Celtic’s captain Lloyd Davies was the next to get his name on the score sheet, when he was on the end of a good passing move on 52 minutes. 5-0 and Celtic were hungry for more, and they did not disappoint. Further goals for Sallis, who completed his hat-trick, Abdullah Sayed, Rakesh Patel, Craig Cooper and a second goal for Davies on 87 minutes gave Celtic a 10-0 away victory whilst playing some excellent football along the way.
The way these young players applied themselves to this game is a credit to them and the coaching staff of Fairwater High School Academy. They remain unbeaten in all games this season, a record they know will be hard to keep, as every team they play now will want to be the first team to lower Celtic’s colours.
