After last week’s fine win against Griffithstown A, we came up against our arch rivals Cwmffrwdoer, in a real six pointer and we ran out comfortable winners in the end. A rather tentative opening 15 minutes saw neither side really creating too much. However, we gradually managed to establish control of the centre of midfield, with Oliver showing tremendous drive and energy in harrying the opposition and winning the fifty fifty challenges, and Dan starting to make the raking passes that are his forte.
Chances started to come at the Cwmffrwdoer end and it was only a matter of time before the first goal arrived courtesy of Michael Davies angled shot that flew neatly into the corner. The second goal followed in quick succession, as the opposition were unable to clear their lines, and as the ball dropped to Dan Preece his smart finish saw the lead doubled.
We reached half-time good value for our half-time lead, with Tom not having to make a save. However, we were well aware that given the quality of the opposition the game was far from over, and as the second half began Cwmffrwdoer enjoyed their best spell of the game, playing some nice football and creating 2 or 3 chances. Fortunately Tom and the defence were up to the task and eventually we were soon able to re-assert ourselves on the game.
As the second half wore on, our control saw us again creating chances, and further goals followed from Chris Pike and a second for Dan to make the victory that bit more emphatic.
A great performance from the boys and a result that puts us firmly in the driving seat as far as the league goes, however there are still significant challenges ahead and it’s important we do not get complacent.
