Celtic finished in 10th place out of 16 teams in their first season in the Reserve East Division. The final playing record in the league was Played 30 Won 10 Drawn 6 Lost 14 Goals for 45 Goals against 65. After a disappointing start in which no wins were achieved in the first 7 games the team finished stongly with big wins in April against Chepstow 4-1 and Caerau Ely 5-2, old campaigner Gary Sturch scoring a hat-trick. There is no doubt that playing a higher standard was beneficial for the young developing players but the fact remains that this side did not achieve its primary purpose which was to bring on players to challenge for first team places. This is something that needs to be addressed next season. The link between the first team and reserves needs to be much closer. There were too many instances of players dropping out of the first team not playing for the reserves and the instances of players stepping up from the Reserves to play for the first team were few and far between, Curtis Meaney (6 goals for the Reserves), Michael Traynor and Liam Edwards being the exceptions. Manager Joey Jones deserves credit for seeing out a difficult season. The players who turned out most regularly were: Jonathan Morgan, a steady performer between the sticks; the twins Shane and Jamie Harris, at age 28, veterans with over 20 years playing for the club, both outstanding in defence. Robbie Wall, authorative defender; Deri Crimmins and Stevie Davies, left footed experience at the back; Michael Phillips and Lee McCarthy, youthful and industrious, Steen Gourlay, wise and cultured, in midfield. Up front the pacey Nathan Westacott, top goalscorer with 8 goals partnering opportunist Richard Edmunds.
